ATMOSPHERE/DÉCOR: It’s clear to see that at the gay bar, Getto Food & Drinks, in Amsterdam’s red light district there is a certain atmosphere being created through an iconic and diverse fake taxidermy collection that hangs on the wall behind the bar. This is their camp/kitsch aesthetic and the lights are always dimmed so it seems to work pretty well. But they are also famous for their cheeseburgers. Do I give them a pass because they’re nice and gay and let me film a video in their bar for free? After all, they are the ones who taught me who of my faux taxidermy finds were valuable antiques and which were not. The ones I couldn’t sell on eBay were donated to their collection.
